NB300R Series Right Angle Gearbox — Spiral Bevel Planetary Drive, 1,000–500,000 Nm
The NB300R Series is a right angle drive gearbox built around a spiral bevel input stage combined with multi-stage planetary reduction. The result is a compact unit that redirects drive by 90° while delivering output torques from 1,000 Nm (NB300R) up to 500,000 Nm (NB321R) — all within the same bolt-circle family. With up to 150 kW of transmissible mechanical power and gear ratios spanning 6.9 to 9,000, this agricultural right angle gearbox line covers fixed industrial plant, heavy mobile machinery, and high-cycle automated drives without needing an external bevel stage. Modular input configurations — IEC/NEMA flanges, axial-piston hydraulic motors, orbit motors, and solid shafts — mean it integrates directly into existing drivetrains.

Key Features of the NB300R Heavy Duty Right Angle Gearbox
- →
Spiral bevel 90° input stage — higher contact ratio than straight-cut bevel gears, reducing noise by up to 6 dB and increasing tooth strength under shock load in this heavy duty right angle gearbox design. - →
Torque range 1,000 – 500,000 Nm across 16 frames — all sizes share a common mounting philosophy, so moving up or down the range requires no new machine interface design. - →
Gear ratios 6.9 to 9,000 in one product family — R2, R3, and R4 stage variants deliver the exact output RPM without a secondary gearbox, keeping the drivetrain shorter and lighter. - →
Universal input compatibility — IEC B5/B14 and NEMA C-face adaptors, axial-piston hydraulic motors, orbit motors, and plain solid shafts all fit without custom machining. - →
Suitable as a right angle gearbox for lawn mower and compact agricultural drives — the lower frame sizes (NB300R to NB305R, 1,000–5,000 Nm) fit mid-size tractor and mower deck configurations with no adapter plate. - →
Sealed for outdoor and wash-down environments — double-lip seals on input and output shafts; IP65-equivalent protection on the bevel housing prevents ingress during field operation. - →
Reduced total cost of ownership — modular design means worn planet carriers or bevel sets are field-replaceable without scrapping the housing, cutting repair cost by 40–60% vs. competitors with welded or bonded housings.

Applications for the NB300R Agricultural Right Angle Gearbox
Agricultural Drives
PTO-driven mowers, rotary tillers, spreaders, and fodder mixers. The compact bevel-planetary layout fits inside existing PTO housings with standard 1-3/8″ or 1-3/4″ spline interfaces.
Marine & Winch
Deck winches, anchor drives, and aquaculture feeding systems where a 90° drive change at the drum is required and the unit must resist salt-spray for 10,000+ operating hours.
Construction Equipment
Concrete mixer drums, slewing rings on mini-excavators, and road-planer head drives — all applications where torque peaks to 2× rated value during material break-in.
Industrial Conveyors
Cross-belt sorters, 90° transfer conveyors, and screw feeders where the motor cannot be aligned axially with the output shaft.
Lawn & Turf Machinery
Large-area ride-on mowers and golf-course fairway cutters where a right angle gearbox for lawn mower applications must fit within a 200 mm vertical envelope.
How to Calculate the Gear Ratio of the NB300R Right Angle Gearbox
The NB300R combines a fixed-ratio bevel stage with a variable-stage planetary section. The total ratio is the product of both:
Total ratio (i) = ibevel × iplanetary
iplanetary = 1 + (Zring / Zsun) ← per planetary stage
Multi-stage: itotal planetary = istage1 × istage2 × istage3
Worked example — NB307R3: Bevel ratio 2:1 × three planetary stages of 5:1 each = 2 × 5 × 5 × 5 = 250:1 total. With a 1,450 RPM motor input, output speed = 1,450 ÷ 250 = 5.8 RPM.
Finding the required ratio: Divide your motor RPM by the target output RPM. If you need 3 RPM from a 1,450 RPM motor: 1,450 ÷ 3 ≈ 483:1 — an NB307R3 or NB309R3 in a high-ratio configuration will cover this.

Right Angle Gearbox Repair: Rebuild or Replace?
The modular NB300R design makes targeted repairs practical. Use this decision guide before ordering a full replacement unit:
- 1.
Oil leak at input bevel housing: Replace the bevel-shaft lip seal. On the NB300R–NB307R frame, this is a standard 72×100×10 NBR seal. Downtime: 1–3 hours with the unit in-situ. - 2.
Whine or howl under load (no debris in oil): The bevel set is the likely source. Remove and inspect tooth contact pattern — a correct spiral bevel shows a centered ellipse roughly 50% of tooth face width. If the pattern has migrated to the toe or heel, adjust bearing preload before condemning the gears. - 3.
Metal particles or milky oil: Drain immediately. Milky oil means water ingress — replace seals, flush, and refill. Metallic debris above 50 µm particles indicates gear or bearing failure; replace the affected stage as an assembly. Do not continue running. - 4.
Irregular output speed or slipping under rated load: Check the planet carrier pins for fretting. If pins have migrated more than 0.1 mm, the carrier needs replacement. A carrier kit for NB307R runs approximately 15% of a new-unit price. - 5.
Cracked housing or stripped mounting threads: Replace the complete unit. Repairing cast-iron housings by welding changes bore alignment tolerances and voids warranty. The NB300R replacement listed here ships pre-assembled and test-run.
Complete Right Angle Drive System — Recommended Components
The NB300R right angle drive gearbox performs best as part of a matched drivetrain. The components below are selected to interface directly with the NB300R input and output configurations:
| Component | Specification | Interface with NB300R |
|---|---|---|
| Electric Motor | IE3, 7.5–110 kW, 4-pole, IEC B5 flange | Bolts to IEC adaptor on NB300R input; no intermediate coupling required |
| Drive Sprocket | ANSI #80–#120 chain, 15–21T, keyed bore | Mounted on solid keyed output shaft; transfers torque to chain-driven load |
| Marine Winch Drum | Ø 280–400 mm, 6–12 mm wire rope, SWL to 10 t | Couples to splined hollow output on NB309R–NB313R for aquaculture and dredging winch duty |
| PTO Drive Shaft | Series 4–6 cross-joint, 1-3/8″ or 1-3/4″ 6-spline | Feeds power from tractor PTO into NB300R input shaft on agricultural drives |
| Elastomeric Jaw Coupling | 2,000–15,000 Nm, 95 Shore A spider | Absorbs torsional shock between motor and bevel input; reduces bevel-tooth fatigue |
